Its been another long August bank holiday. I turned up around 6pm full of anticipation and with a bucket full of balls - Vitalin balls that is! Seeing as the bay swims were taken i opted for the Island swim which offers perfect reach to a plateau at 50 yards at 7ft deep. This is an ideal feature to bombard with my vitalin mix using the whooper dropper.
The plan was to fish one rod short using a bottom bait critically balanced on top of that plateau to my left, 10 ft off the back of the island. Pulling back the lead using my marker i could just feel the start of a smallish clump of weed, so after a few recasts i hit the perfect spot and proceeded to cast Rod one. Whopper dropper time! I love this idea as its so much easily than spodding. I am still yet to perfect the art of making a good solid vitalin ball but hey, its always a learning experience isnt it. Around 30 balls where lobbed out in Rod one’s vicinity. Sorted.
Friday evening and its all going calm. I love evenings like this...except one thing...those clouds are moving in

What every Carp Angler wants for brekkie - courtesy of Dave the Bankside Chef...the man carries tons of gear and most of it is food..I may only fish once or twice year with him but i dont think i could manage too many of these meals.

Rod two was placed straight ahead past the drop off from that plateau in 15 ft of water. I was trying to cover all options here and just a bit of bait went out in that spot. 20 or so boilies fired out..Nice.
The Third rod consisted of Mr Choddy and once again i launched this for the horizon. Now I must say at this point im no distance guy but i am trying to learn the long chuck for at least one rod. Ive now had a few lessons and i have to say all my fears about the rods and reels being inadequate are gone. They GO!! The far bank in this swim is 200 yard plus and im now in the 170 region...practice makes perfect so watch this space. I know it doesnt guarentee you fish but i want the option of fishing at range if the situation allows.
Saturday came, and with it yet another blank...ive lost track of numbers now but its tough going being 3 years past having a fish.
I used to hate Rainbow...bungle and all that..grrr

Daves idea of a quick snack! Ribs

All in all the weekend weather was a mixed bag and although i failed to catch, as did Dave the fish im certain will be moving into deeper water soon. Its time for me to take a break from Lac de frustration. I really do think the lack of weed its helping and i see no point in wasting time blanking any further when things arent looking right. I`m going to take some time walking about the lake for a while...Fishing will commence in the autumn now...maybe October...
Catch you soon folks and take care..keep on hauling n all that.
