So the weekend turned out to be a hot one and having had the luxury of Friday off work he headed to Micks Norwood Angling tackle shop to pick up a few essentials, and then it was off to the lake. Arriving around 12.30, base camp was all set up by 2pm, and the rods were hanging on the pod looking for something to do.
Id made some over 50 Vitalin balls for this session and the aim was to try the new Whopper Dropper technique, by using a Catapult pouch tied to a rod. You stick the ball into the pouch, lob the rod, and the pouch goes nowhere, but by using the rod as a large sling shot you can really get the groundbait out at some distance...it was quite impressive stuff actually and certainly beats spodding hands down.
Once the rods were in place i actually felt a small surge of confidence...with new rigs tied, and new pop ups bought sometimes its the little things.
Friday evening was spent contemplating and thinking about rigs...id tied longer hooklengths and was only fishing with one choddy. The new pop ups were Mainlines' Pineapple in 16mm, and they really stink. Together with the new Pubchucker bottom bait i felt a strange level of confidence. By morning awaking to the sounds of nature (birds not loo) the confidence had withered, and the realisation it was another blank night dawned on me. Sitting out in my sitting in the sun chair i was on my 4th cuppa when a chap came into the swim. Startled by seeing someone else awake at silly o clock (around 6.10am), we proceeded to chat about this and that, how the lake was fishing (crap) and how there were hardly any boys or girls (lets not be sexist) fishing it this year. He then dropped the bombshell that his season was going rather well...41Ib Mirror well!
Into saturday morning and the Pubchucker Junior finally joined the club so hopefully this time next year he will be able to fish nights..woohoo..not alot else really to say other than its yet another blank...the weather stayed nice but "nothing to Report Captain"...
