Its much cooler this week. The car told me it was only 8 degrees coming into work. If things stay this way its only a matter of time before those deeper swims kick off. Although this year has been ****** awful in terms of total fish landed i do feel that October can be one of the most productive times on my lake.
My plan is to head towards a swim which sits in the East corner of the lake. Its deep with 30ft at three rod lengths out. Close in fishing will be the key here and i dont plan on altering my tactics from previous sessions. One rod will be fished as a Chod set up with the two remaining on bottom baits respectively.
The sun is shining through my office window as i count down the minutes to a 3pm leave.
By the time id arrived at the lake it was already dropping in temperature. Id chosen a spot offering deep margins and one which can produce fish at this time of the year. All thats needed is a short 20-30 yard chuck with PVA bag, and that puts you at the bottom of the drop off in anywhere around 19-24ft of water.
Im certainly glad i packed the thermal gear because by about 7pm into darkness it was really getting chilly. Three rods were positoned, all at close quarters. Two set up with bottom baits and the third on my usual chod arrangement. A friend had given me a new rig to try on the Chod and its something ive not seen before at all. Oh how id love to catch on it because from the margins it looks fantastic.
I awoke at 5.30am Saturday morning to a heavy mist. On looking out from the Bivvy i could hardly see two rod lengths in front of me. The temperature through the night im told had dropped to a shivery 4 degrees.

Saturday morning and the Sun makes an appearance

Breakfast was served at 10am after cupious amounts of tea. I think its really important to eat well during the colder months.
As the day progressed it turned out rather nice with sunshine in abundance, and a weak Easterly wind. The fish of course werent showing which is nothing new for this water. When they do show its 300 yards across the water against the out of bounds bank!
Into Saturday evening and after listening to the Wales vs France Rugby I sat and watched the water low on motivation to do anything. Its hard and getting harder seeing very few Carp week in, week out. The irony is that those few who do land a few arent doing anything new. I just want to do it my way. Hmm, isnt that a song.
