Session 7
Well its now in excess of 7 weekends spent on the lake and I’m still yet to catch. Its been one of the warmest September’s on record with the past weekend reaching 21 Degrees - weird for this time of year….i brought the thermals and left em in the car! There hasn’t been a frost yet either.
I’ve decided to alter bait flavours and have gone for something different to alleviate a problem I’ve found…….
The lake bed on my water has a high PH, and is extremely silty. Baits high in Fishmeal tend to suck up the smell from the lake bed, not helpful in providing an attractant to the fish.
What’s the plan??
Having contacted one of my friends in the bait business I am now switching to a fruity bait, designed especially for use on silty lakes, where baits tend to suck in the smelly lake bottom, and lose their aroma.
I plan on fishing the next 6 weekends back to back, but putting in very little feed. Past experience has taught me there is really no need to fill a swim in like you do on some commercial waters with low stocked gravel pits….its a total waste of time and bait. Unless ‘on the fish’ its better to fish either single hookers, or stringers which is what I plan on doing.

Word on the lake from the select few remaining Anglers who campaign our water is that only a few fish have been landed over past few weeks, a 29.10 mirror, and another mirror of 33Ib. Nice fish, but because of the high temperatures for this time of year many fish are still hiding out of bounds….going off on a tangent here for a mo, it is sometimes something I ponder….can Carp read the sign ‘Out of bounds’, or do they just know the safe areas??!!?
Where to fish…
I have picked two main areas of the lake providing access to deep water very close in. All that is required is a 20yard underarm flick and you are in 14-18ft of water…this has produced over the past 4 years and it seems once the temperatures plummet these depths definitely produce. I have even caught fish in over 26ft of water…and that is a debate for another time!
Attached are some photos of the water last weekend around 5am with an early mist on the lake as the sun comes up…where was i??? making a cuppa of course!
